Current Projects

To advocate for dance as an art form and vital component of our culture,
To increase the capabilities of dance artists and organizations, and
To enhance the public's awareness and support for dance

Dance/USA Philadelphia is currently involved in the following projects:

DanceBoom Planning Project in partnership with the Wilma Theater

Dance/USA Philadelphia is in the midst of a year-long planning project in partnership with the Wilma Theater to address the future of DanceBoom. Funding has been secured through the Nonprofit Center of LaSalle University to drive the process forward. Planning is considered to be necessary at this time to address audience development, resource generation and the creation of a new and sustainable model. The process includes benchmarking best practices on a national level, focus group research with DanceBoom audiences and analysis of performing arts trends in Philadelphia.

Subsidized Photo Shoot Project in partnership with Dance Advance

This April, three Philadelphia companies will benefit from a subsidized photo shoot with dance photographer Cylla Von Tiedemann. This opportunity was offered to every Philadelphia dance artist/company on the PennPat Roster and/or funded by Dance Advance in 2007 on a first-come first-serve basis. A second shoot will be scheduled in September 2008.

Association of Performing Arts Presenters Conference De-Briefing and How-To Session
Nine Philadelphia dance companies were represented at the APAP Conference in January 2008. Dance/USA Philadelphia is hosting a debriefing session for those participants and then scheduling a subsequent "How-To Session" for the broader dance community led by experienced participants from past conferences. Details to be announced through our E-newsletter.

Audience Education Project in partnership with The Kimmel Center

In Januray 2007 Dance/USA Philadelphia collaborated with The Kimmel Center on a Special Event featuring choreographer Shen Wei with Philadelphia artist Sebastienne Mundheim, two artists who create in both the visual arts and movement arts. We look forward to developing other programs in conjunction with regional dance presenters to enhance audience development.

Scholarships
Scholarships for staff members or board members of dance companies with annual budgets of $200,000 or less for educational opportunities in management, marketing, technology, board development etc. are available on a first come first serve basis through Dance/USA Philadelphia. Private Consultations
One-on-one consultations are available by appointment with the Director of D/USA Philadelphia to explore specific opportunities, problem-solve and strategize.

Video Services

Dance/USA Philadelphia is preparing to launch a Video Services program that will provide, at subsidized rates, video dubbing and transferring services. We will have the capacity to add editing services in the future. (Projected launch: October 2008)

Roundtables
Dance/USA Philadelphia hosts 4-6 convenings annually that bring together special interest groups in the dance community to identify issues in the field and options for change. Contact admin@danceusaphiladelphia for information on upcoming Roundtables.

Task Force on the Philadelphia Dance Collection of Temple University Library
A task force has been formed to address the status of the Philadelphia Dance Collection at Temple University Library. We have had an initial meeting with the Head of the Special Collections and are moving forward to advance this initiative for change with the goal of reporting back to the community on our progress in September 2008.
